Kitaibelia vitifolia

We love hollyhocks but struggle to grow them here so this is a favourite substitute. This hollyhock relative grows to form a tall, pillar like plant with vine like leaves. The flowers are pure white backed with green and a golden centre. Wonderful for giving midsummer height in a large border. Will tolerate fairly poor soil. Sun/part shade. Height to 2m.

Related to the Hollyhock family, this splendid perennial form the lower Danube grows 1.5m Р2m tall, has vine-like leaves & large, showy cup-shaped white flowers from July to September. It forms a good sized bush, and works very well at the back of a border. Almost shrub-like, this is a tall plant that is happy in sun or shade, & normal or moist soil & really deserves to be better known, particularly if you struggle to grow Hollyhocks as we do here. Fantastic for providing interest for shady areas where you might normally struggle to find a flowering plant.
