Clematis Duchess of Edinburgh


An absolute delight, Clematis ‘Duchess of Edinburgh’ is an old-fashioned white-flowered climbing clematis and a long time beloved beauty, with layers of velvety white petals that create large 4-6″ luscious blooms. A repeat bloomer, Duchess of Edinburgh Clematis blooms on both old and new wood. You can expect flowers in late spring and early summer, then again in late summer into fall.

Product Description

An old variety with pom pom-like, fully double, white flowers. Still one of the best white Clematis. The fat buds begin opening greenish-white and soon change to frilly blooms of pure glowing-white. Early summer flowering, with a fresh crop of flowers in September. Happy in sun or part shade. Plant in a spot where the plant can climb over a wall or fence, or through a shrub or tree. In the first year after planting prune back hard to approximately one foot above ground level leaving two or three healthy buds. On established plants prune back to approximately five feet in the winter or early spring before the plant starts to grow then again lightly just after flowering to encourage a second flush of flowers.Pruning Group 2.
